Born on 17 January 1975 in Lampani, Budheswar Murla grew up surrounded by folk rituals and rhythms. His formative training came under the stalwarts Guru Ramaniranjan Mohanta, Guru Sumanta Kumar Mohanta and Guru Achintya Kumar Behera. Recognised early for his talent, Budheswar received the Government of India’s scholarship for young workers in cultural fields (2002-03). Later, in 2017, he was officially honoured as a Chhau Guru by the Mayurbhanj Chhau Nrutya Pratisthan, Baripada. Today he is known as a travelling teacher, nurturing troupes such as Alibha Deep Chhau Nrutya Pratisthan, Maa Kichakeshwari Chhau Nrutya Pratisthan, Jay Durga Chhau Nrutya Pratisthan and several others. His classes combine rigorous technique with storytelling, enabling rural youth to find pride in their heritage.
